My boyfriend Steve and I had not had been to a summer vacation in Europa for a couple of years so we were looking forward to our trip to Portugal.
For many years Portugal was overshadowed by Spain, France, and Italy as vacation destinations, but recently we had heard Portugal is the new hot travel destination.
We arrived at terminal 1 at Lisbon Airport and our vacation had begun. We chose to take advantage of Uber to travel to Lisbon city witch is very affordable.
It was only a 6 km journey and we had to wait less than five minutes for the service to arrive.
We had arrived lunchtime so we thought we would visit a local place of interest, Bairro alto.
the place just to stroll and soak in historic Lisbon.
I hadn’t realized that Bairro alto is the best of the Portuguese capital’s nightlife.
That evening we went out for a delicious meal at the Belcanto Restaurant and sampled contemporary Portuguese cuisine.
The restaurant had two Michelin stars and is number 42 in the list of the top 50 world restaurants!
It was a great start to the vacation.
A romantic evening where we also enjoyed a romantic experience as we sipped our local wine.
The next day we found ourselves taking the “Original Lisbon Walk”, an amazing tour that takes in so much of Lisbon. Rossio Square, Jenny thought the wavy tile pattern was absolutely lovely.
We sat for a few minutes on the steps of the central monument. Wandering through the network of small streets that featured bookshops and cafes. We were strolling hand in hand already so relaxed.
How could we visit Portugal without visiting the small town called Sintra? It is probably one of the most famous towns in the country. Sintra’s cultural landscape is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.In Sintra.
the tangerine-and-yellow Pena Palace is perched atop a hill. The exotic architecture, complete with arches and various levels, makes it a incrible views.
We learned all about A longtime royal sanctuary, It was made especially interesting by our tour guide who brought history to life. If ever you go to Sintra, try to get a private tour.
We visited many places in Portugal but I think the one most worthy of mention was Cascais.
This coastal resort town is just west of Lisbon and was for a time a Royal retreat.
The beaches at this resort are safe with lifeguards in the summer. The sea is clean and calm.
We took a taxi from Lisbon to our hotel, Penha Longa Resort”
Walk in the footsteps of royalty along the gorgeous Estoril coastal region of Portugal as a guest of Penha Longa Resort.
Our resort in Sintra traces its origins back to the 16th century, includes a landmark monastery that was built on its ground and has been a frequent retreat of Portuguese royal and foreign dignitaries.
At heart, Cascais is a fishing town and has a lot of character. It is a place where you can spend time on the wonderful beaches of Praia da Conceição and Praia da Duquesa, and then check out the traditional styled 19th-century mansions.
The town also features an amazing nightlife and it is just a wonderful place to visit that we will always remember.
