My girlfriend and I love to travel. And our favorite thing to do while in a foreign country is to go on long road trips.
We’ve taken countless road trips, but one of the most unforgettable we took is the one we took from Paris to Monaco.
The trip started in downtown Paris, at the place where we rented a car. We have been to Paris before.
We have seen all the important sites: the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysee, Notre Dame, etc.
But being behind the steering wheel driving on the streets of Paris – it was like seeing the city for the first time and with fresh eyes. I have a confession to make. It was my first time to drive in foreign soil. I thought it was going to be scary but it turned out to be a very fun experience. After all, Parisian streets are nice and the traffic is not that bad either.
Our first stop is Avignon. Before we took the road trip, a good friend told us to stay off the highway and to take the more scenic route instead. We were glad we took his advice.
The scenery took our breath away. At times, I find it hard to concentrate on driving because I get distracted by the beauty that surrounds me.
We passed by several small cities like Saint-Étienne, Lyon, Valence, and many other smaller villages and towns. It was early afternoon when we arrived at Avignon after driving almost 12 hours and the first thing that we noticed are the gorgeous castles.
It was like a trip back in the era of kings and queens. This legacy can be seen in the massive Palais des Papes (Popes’ Palace) in the city center, which is surrounded by medieval stone ramparts.
